Develop Disciples to Serve

  • Youth Groups in Ironton, Pleasant Valley, and other congregations throughout the Mission Center invite youth from the community to join in fellowship, learning, and service at their churches and in the world. 

  • Camps and Retreats and Camp Bountiful are held throughout the year and invite families and youth to learn about Christ, share in fellowship, and take the Community of Christ missions out into the world. 

Abolish Poverty, End Suffering

  • Socktober - An initiative organized by the late Wayne Allen in 2014 (in response to this video) to collect and distribute socks for the winter months to those in need. Since Wayne organized the campaign in 2014, over 4,400 pairs of socks have been distributed throughout the mission center. 

  • Backpacks for Kids - congregations in Follansbee, WV and Pleasant Valley, OH use backpacks to provide food to local children during weekends when they do not have access to school meals. 

  • Food Pantry operated by the Pleasant Valley, OH congregation

  • Clothing Closets and Giveaways in Ironton, OH and Chillicothe, OH. 

  • Providing meals to those in need at the Rarden Community Center in Rarden, OH. 

  • Quilts for Kids - an organization to provide quilts for children taken into protective custody. Contact Susie Noble (sknoble68@comcast.net) for more information. 

  • Christmas Shoeboxes - an initiative to collect items to send to kids in need in Lucasville, OH. 

  • Open Table Ministry - Open Table trains congregations and their members, through the Open Table Model, to form communities - called Tables - that transform their vocational and life experiences into tools our Brothers and Sisters in poverty can use to develop and implement plans that create change. Currently serving West Portsmouth and Lucasville areas of the Bountiful Mission Center. Contact Vicki Crabtree (740-372-4502) for more information. 

  • NA/AA/NT Meetings - Held at Community of Christ in Wellston, Ohio. Contact Cheryl Browning (cjbohiomom@gmail.com) for current times. 

  • Rocking Babies - members of the Lucasville congregation participate in SOMC's volunteer program to rock babies in the nursery. Located in the heart of the opioid epidemic, these babies are often experience drug withdrawal symptoms and require an extraordinary amount of care and love.

Pursue Peace on Earth

  • ​Daily Prayer for Peace - The Daily Prayer for Peace worship service is held at 1:00 p.m. central time, 365 days a year at Community of Christ Temple, Independence, Missouri. Each day a prayer is offered for a specific country based on the World Council of Churches’ ecumenical prayer cycle, which joins our prayers with that of Christians throughout the world.
